3 days – the most westward city in Germany
Arrival + City Tour
After arrival in Aachen, your chauffeur welcomes you at the train station to bring you to your booked hotel. After hotel check-in, you will meet your tour guide for a tour through the city of Aachen, which was the coronation site of the German kings for more than 600 years. Along your way across the picturesque Old Town of Aachen, follow the traces of Charlemagne who resided here in medieval times. At the Katschhof, experience how modernity meets the history of one of the oldest squares in Europe. Visit the famous Aachen Cathedral and the Aachen Cathedral Treasury, which harbours one of the most significant collections of ecclesial treasures worldwide. For a reason the Cathedral was the first German monument to make the entry into the list of UNESCO world heritages in 1978. Also the Gothic townhall and the Elisenbrunnen are worth a visit, as well as the Muensterplatz and the Market surrounded by historic bourgeois houses originating from different epochs. Besides the ancient touch, the townscape is shaped especially by the numerous buildings of the RWTH Aachen University -Germany’s major technical university- and the more than 40 000 students who provide the city with a peerless flair of cultural diversity and internationality. This atmosphere is enhanced by the location of Aachen in the tri-border region of Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands. In the evening you should visit the Pont quarter, where you can find numerous restaurants, bars and pubs.
After a rich breakfast at your hotel, your chauffeur brings you to the Dutch city of Roermond. Following the extensive sightseeing programme on the day before, you will have the opportunity of copious shopping at the Designer Outlet today. More than 200 designer brands are sold here. Afterwards your chauffeur brings you back towards Aachen with a stop at the industrial selling of a famous pastry speciality, where you can buy and have a taste of the popular Aachener Printen. Furthermore another stop at a chocolate outlet is possible, in case your hunger on sweets is not allayed yet. Return to Aachen in the late afternoon, the evening is at your leisure. If you are in the mood of relaxation, we recommend a visit of the well-established Carolus Thermen that offers a thermal bath and a sauna. Or how about a massage at the Carolus spa? Gladly we will make an appointment for you.
After breakfast, transfer to the train station. You will return home with numerous memories of Aachen and well-filled shopping bags.
